Cyclobenzaprine[1] is a tricyclic antidepressant compound that is used clinically as a long-acting skeletal muscle relaxant and analgesic. It is marketed as Flexeril (5 and 10 mg tablets), and also as Fexmid (7.5 mg tablet). Both Flexeril and Fexmid are available generically. Once-a-day extended release formulation, Amrix, has been approved by the United States FDA in 2007 and is available in 15 and 30 mg capsules.[2




Before taking cyclobenzaprine


  • a heart rhythm disorder;
  • congestive heart failure;
  • heart block; or
  • an overactive thyroid.
Before using cyclobenzaprine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:
  • problems with urination;
  • enlarged prostate;
  • glaucoma; or
  • liver disease.







Chlorzoxazone is a centrally acting muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasm and the resulting pain or discomfort. It acts on the spinal cord by depressing reflexes. It is sold as Muscol or Parafon Forte, a combination of chlorzoxazone and acetaminophen. Possible side effects include dizziness, lightheadednese,nausea,vomiting, and liver dysfunction.
